RE: Yellow Jacket Problem

Try some mint extract around the vent - Yellow Jackets hate that.

RE: Preventing Fuel Theft

How about a dummy fuel filler that leads to the black tank? -- let them siphon on that for a while! Or, maybe even better, it could lead to a tank full of something that appears to be fuel but will fry their motor when they use it.
LOL :-P
Good one! I have heard the same thing about theft these days, they go right for the line or tank.

RE: Skid Wheels

I had originally put some skid wheels on my class C using the screw on type w/brackets. The brackets did not hold up well so I am going to replace them with the weld on variety. We scrape for an inch or two at the bottom of our driveway. Fortunately, the lowest part on my coach is the skid plates on the hitch mount bar, don't have any issues with anything else hitting.

RE: Portable Rapid Charger

I believe most of the B & D units were made by vector last time I looked, those are very good units with battery reconditioning and user selectable charge rates. I have had very good results with vector/B&D chargers.

RE: How to Measure Your RV 12V Power Usage?

The current consumed by spark generators for furnace, etc are negligible compared to current consuming devices (lights, 12 appliances, inverter, etc) and can be ignored. If you want to get really exact, you can measure each load with a meter, but keep in mind not all things will be on for the same amount of time and at the same time.

RE: How do you MANUALLY level an RV?

Hoppy Level
I should add since I was driving a MH, I mounted one to the dash and one under the driver's window.
Also, if welding jack plates to the frame, or otherwise doing manual jack leveling, be very careful and only raise each point a little at a time.
Most if not all automatic systems level with two jacks at a time. Front or rear, left side or right side, together. This minimizes twisting the frame. Especially on longer units, twisting the frame by extensively lifting only one jack at a time can cause dire consequences, such as cracked windows/windshield, and doors that no longer fit correctly.
Good luck and happy camping...
Thanks for the tip on twisting. It is also easier to raise the coach if you do so evenly.

RE: Tow with water or not.

I generally try to not pull too much water (1 gal = 8.3 lbs). I usually just put a few gallons in so we can use toilet, sink, etc. Be sure to check your destination for potable water and carry an inline filter to keep dirt and other impurities out of your tanks and lines.

RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???

Added central vac system. This really turned out to be a great investment. Much easier to use that everything else we tried. The vacuum mounted under the kitchen seating and the hose reaches every corner of the coach. Very powerful suction even got some stains off the carpet that I thought I would have to use some carpet cleaner on. The Dirt devil system I installed even came with a air powered carpet attachment (has a beater in it) that REALLY works well.

RE: Exhaust extension for Gen

Just be careful you don't create significant extra back-pressure in the exhaust with a DIY extension. This might lead to exhaust leaks in the generator compartment. Smaller Onan's have at least two joints inside the box that could leak, the internal muffler-to-tailpipe one in particular. Any leaks here could find their way into the living quarters.
Sreeder, I think the Genturi idea is to draw outside air into the exhaust stream at the bottom of the 'chimney' to mix with the exhaust, and thus dilute the CO. Plus roofs tend to be well-sealed; undersides don't.
Jim, "Mo' coffee!"
Thanks for the clarification of what is happening here.

RE: Exhaust extension for Gen

I picked up some of the suction cup holders for Harbor Freight. A length of (10') of 3" PVC from Home Depot. Cut the Pipe in Half and mounted the suction cups on each piece. Took the end with female coupling formed in the pipe, and slide that over other piece. So now I have the a 10' that breaks in half for storage. then Picked up an 1 1/8" electrical EMT 90 degree bend. that fits over the exhaust and blows the exhaust up. Suck the PVC on the side of RV with a 2" air gap over the EMT and no more exhaust. It's all up, up and away for about $35.00 total. JM2Cents Bill
Thanks for the tip! I will definitely be constructing one of these!

RE: Mice are eating my RV engine wires. What have you done ?

We have squirrel problems when camping in Big Sur (Cal). They go for plug wires on cars, RVs, etc. Also like to eat at the insulation. We usually put the dogs near the cars to prevent the buggers from coming near. Thanks for the peppermint oil tip - we will definitely give that a try.

RE: E450 Cruise Control

are you towing? My E450 on cruise control does pretty good when flat/level unless I am pulling the boat (and even then not so bad). Maybe you need to check with dealer to get that tuned, seems like that is not quite right.

RE: 8.7 MPG what happend ?

8.7 is pretty typical on my coach, although I tow a boat usually and we are in California, which has a poor MPG gas formula (believe it or not). Scangauge is a great tool and is very easy to use.

RE: RV audio

Hey all!
I just bought my first RV, an '85 Fleetwood Jamboree Rallye. It's a 19', built on a Chevy chassis. Somebody upgraded the sound to a Pioneer Supertuner 4x50 CD deck, and put some Pioneer speakers in the back that are in plastic cases. They sound OK, but I was thinking about building up the sound a little.
I'm not a 'thumpin' teenager, but I upgraded the stereo in my Izuzu Trooper with a modest amp and bass tube sub-woofer (used). I couldn't believe how much difference it made! I saw a 6" bass tube at a pawn shop yesterday, and saw a 200w amp on craigslist --- I started thinking about it in the RV!
Powered amps do pull some watts. Would it be a mistake to try running one from my coach battery? For that matter, wouldn't it make sense if the dash stereo unit also ran off the coach battery? Mine presently runs from the ignition, and doesn't run at all until I have full ignition -- not on aux. power.
Any thoughts?
The stereo would definitely draw some power. I have a separate deep cycle in my boat just for the stereo which we play when anchored. I have been thinking of doing the same kind of thing and tying it in to the TV for better sound for the kids while driving. I am using a computer speaker system (a decent one) for the same purpose now, but would be better to have nicely mounted system. The other choice is use normal home theater system, but that probably draws even more power.

RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???

Installed new 3000W inverter. This runs both TVs and the outlet by the bed. Refrig is also on that circuit for some reason (?) so I will leave that on gas when I am not plugged in until I run a new line for that.
